Belgian Chocolates Are The Best!
Belgians have been making chocolates for well over a century, and are now famous for their Belgian chocolates. Learn more about the story of Belgian chocolates here.
The Sweet Beginning of Belgian Chocolates
In 1857, Jean Neuhaus opened a pharmacy and sold dark chocolate along with other pharmaceuticals. (Quick background: Chocolate was once thought to have healing properties.) Soon after, Charles Neuhaus created a chocolate bar he named Cote d'Or. (It's a very rich chocolate that is still popular today.) In the early 1900s, Jean Neuhaus's grandson, Jean Neuhaus Jr., got the idea to sell solid chocolates with soft centers (known as pralines). His wife put them in pretty gift boxes, and the idea took off. Eventually, he made the chocolates in different flavors. And now, Belgian chocolates are sold worldwide.
The Gift of Belgian Chocolates
